If you have or know a preteen or teen girl that’s preparing to go back to school, a Back To School Survival Kit is a practical and thoughtful gift idea that she will actually use all year long.
Middle and high school are not always easy. It can be stressful and unpredictable, so starting the year prepared with supplies she (or her friends) may need is a great way to ease some stress and avoid desperate phone calls in the middle of the work day: “Mom, I need a change of underwear!” or “Mom, I spilled something all over my clothes-HELP!” (Ask me how I know)
When putting together a survival kit for a teen girl, start with a discreet bag that can she can easily keep in her backpack or locker.
Survival Kit Essentials:
Girl Stuff
Pads: for obvious reasons. Nothing creates absolute panic in a girl quite like unexpectedly starting her period and not having access to her girl products.
Deodorant: The panic that ensues when a teen girl realizes that she forgot to put on deodorant is serious. Nothing makes a teen feel more insecure than worrying her pits are stinky.
Extra undies: stash at least one extra pair of underwear to prevent the humiliation of period stained undies. Include extra leggings as well.
Beauty
Tide Stick: Perfect for accidental spills and stains
Hairbrush/Hair Ties: always good to have on hand for a quick hair refresh between classes.
Travel Sized Makeup Wipes: for when that mean girl, romantic interest, or minor inconvenience makes her mascara run.
Mini Lint Roller: For dog or cat hair, fuzz, and lint.
Body Spray: A girl must smell good at all times. It’s an unwritten rule. A super popular one is this Sol De Jeneiro scent.
Mirror: a mini handheld mirror comes in handy for a quick hair/teeth/makeup check between classes.
Girl Emergency Prevention
Portable Charger: Nothing spells crisis for a teenage girl more than a dead phone. Have her stick a portable charger (like this one) in her bag for days when she forgot to charge or phone or has a long day of extracurriculars.
Bandaids: because it’s always good to have one on hand for annoying papercuts or scrapes. Because blood is so….ewww.
Floss, toothbrush, travel sized toothpaste: nothing is more humiliating for a teen girl than food stuck in her teeth. A travel toothbrush set like this one is perfect.
Gum or mints: for breath refreshing after lunch.
Her favorite on the go snacks: keep an emergency snack stash for days when lunch is terrible or she has to go straight to after school practice.
Cash/Change: There is always an unexpected need for cash or change. Keep a little extra on hand.
Middle and High School can create a lot of anxiety. When you’re a teen girl, you feel like you’re constantly under a microscope and even the tiniest inconvenience can feel enormous. Having a backup emergency kit can help ease anxiety just knowing she’s got what she needs for any unexpected situation or mini crisis.
