Why Kids Are Better Than Us
Kids are just better than us. It’s a fact. I’ve worked with kids my entire adult life and have three of my own and I never stop learning from them.
Here are just 11 ways they are better than we are.
1. They laugh a lot
The average kid laughs up to 300 times per day. The average adult? Fifteen. Life is made to be enjoyed. Find ways to laugh more.
2. They find joy in the smallest moments
Give a child a bottle of bubbles and watch them light up. It doesn’t take much to spark joy in a kid’s heart. They seek and find it in the simplest things.
3. They accept others
Kids don’t judge. They don’t have preconceived notions and they haven’t been taught biases yet. They have the most beautiful ability to accept others fully just the way they are.
4. They live in the moment
Kids are present right where they are. They don’t spend time dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. They live in the moment they are in, which is why they soak up life so fully.
5. They are amazed by everything
Kids find the most ordinary things to be fascinating. If you have ever been rushed to get somewhere, you have probably experienced their awe when they see a rock on the ground that they just HAVE to stop and inspect. Sadly, this awe gets pushed down as we become adults but when we have our own kids, we get glimpses of that feeling of awe through their eyes.
6. They dance like no one is watching
Kids don’t worry too much about what other people think of them. They just are. They don’t let fear of judgement hold them back. They’re beautifully uninhibited.
7. The see the best in the world and in others
Kids haven’t yet become cynical and they tend to see the best in others and in the world in general.
8. They make everything an adventure.
Kids see adventure everywhere. A couch becomes a jungle gym. An amazon box becomes a rocket ship. A trip to the grocery store becomes a war zone. (If you know, you know)
9. They are in love with life
Adults tend to go through life from task to task. The small joys tend to be lost in the need to keep life running and life loses some of its shimmer. Kids fully embrace the moment. They love being alive and they jump into life headfirst-full of curiosity, excitement, and sparkle.
10. They love to create.
As adults, we tend to spend more time consuming and less time creating. Kids are always creating something. Drawings, block cities, sandcastles, forts. They make their most creative thoughts and ideas concrete. If we spent more time creating just for the sake of creating, we would be so much more fulfilled.
11. Their love is wide open. They aren’t afraid of love. Walls don’t exist for them. They don’t hold back. They aren’t afraid to be vulnerable. They love big and they aren’t afraid to show it.
If adults took some lessons from kids, I am convinced the world would be a much happier place.
